The “Gaudy Gala” was conceived by committee charter members, Gail Danforth and Penny Ruhm at the tail end of a work-related brainstorming session. Given the sheer volume of social events covered by the media in exhausting detail during Saratoga’s illustrious racing season, we thought we might add to the mix by trying something a bit different – and a bit tacky! Armed with closets full of bridesmaid dresses that will never be mistaken for haute couture, we figured we could wear them to our own party, have some laughs, and raise a little money for a deserving local charity.
With three Galas behind us, we have raised over $7,000 for two local charities.
